My unexpected teachers - Nomakwezi

Nomakwezi's husband died, leaving her with five children to care for. Added to this, her sister and her sister's child became her responsibility after her sister's debilitating depression left her unable to work or care for her child. Amanda has albinism and her sight and hearing are very poor. Nomakwezi relates her lessons in learning to be a good mother to Amanda. She advises other parents to stand up and be good parents to their children, irrespective of the way they look or their abilities.

This story was made in a 5-day workshop in 2009 organised by the African Decade for People with disabilities, in association with the Association for Progressive Communications and Women'sNet. http://www.africandecade.org/
